Refugee Employment Advisor

About RefuNet:

RefuNet currently provides English, Maths and Science lessons to over 500 refugees and asylum seekers, through our amazing team of volunteer tutors.

The opportunity:

We are now recruiting for a Refugee Employment Advisor to support refugees who are receiving lessons from RefuNet to access meaningful employment. We know that lots of RefuNet students are really keen to start working and would benefit from guidance as to how to find work that they find rewarding.

What you will do:

The focus of the role is helping RefuNet students navigate the employment market in the UK. It is envisaged that the role will include some/all of the following:

1-1 support:

  • Support to decide what career path to take

  • Mapping out the route to accessing that career, particularly for those that need qualifications

  • Signposting towards courses or specialist organisations

  • Explaining job application processes

  • CV support

  • Connecting to RefuNet volunteers who can support with interview preparation

  • Connecting to RefuNet volunteers with expertise in a particular field

Broader support:

  • Sharing resources with the RefuNet network

  • Exploring the possibility of information sessions with the RefuNet network

We know that you won't have the knowledge and/or time to be able to support in all of these areas, so signposting to people who are able to help (through the RefuNet network) will be key. It is also expected that you will need to spend a few weeks before starting 1-1 meetings building your knowledge and resources. We can help you with our existing information and contacts.

If we have lots of demand, we will look to to build a team of people over time to support students in this way.

Finally, as this is a new role, you will have the freedom to shape the role according to what you find is most valuable to students and what you are most passionate about.

What you will bring:

Required skills / experiences:

  • Passion for supporting refugees

  • Recruitment / career advisory experience

  • Ability to work independently

Desirable skills / experience:

  • Lived experience of seeking asylum or migration

  • Experience working with refugees

Logistics:

  • Fully voluntary

  • 5 hours a week, flexible hours

  • Fully remote

  • Working independently, with support from Bethany

How to apply:

  • Email your CV and a paragraph explaining why you are interested to Bethany at contact@refunet.co.uk

  • Bethany will reach out to arrange an informal interview
