Teacher Student Liaison

RefuNet is currently looking for a new Teacher Student Liaison to help us support teachers and students, and to reach even more people!

About RefuNet

RefuNet provides online volunteer tutors to refugees and asylum seekers. Adult students are mostly learning ESOL and students under 18 are learning ESOL, English for GCSE, Maths and Science. We currently have ~550 active pairs and are growing all the time.

 

Job description:

The focus of the role is contacting existing teachers and students by email to make sure things are going smoothly and helping address issues when they arise. This includes giving teaching advice, signposting to other organisations and arranging new pairings where needed. There is also the option to get involved in other things (e.g. resource preparation) if you are interested.

There will be a training session at the start of the volunteering, which will either take place one evening during the week or at the weekend. The work will mostly be independent and you can choose when you want to work, but with communication with Bethany whenever there are questions / issues.

 

Skills / attributes:

  • Reliability

  • Commitment to the cause

  • Organisation – keeping on top of emails and recording everything clearly

  • Comfortable using Excel

  • Good written communication skills

  • English teaching experience

  • Lived experience of seeking asylum or migration is a bonus

  • Experience working with refugees is a bonus

Commitments:

  • 3-5 hours a week of volunteering, spread out over at least 3 days, for at least 3 months

  • Communication around any issues that come up that stop you from volunteering
